Women’s Health at More Pathways

At More Pathways we are passionate about forwarding women’s health research and supporting those with the following conditions:

  • Endometriosis and dysmenorrhea

  • Bladder Pain syndrome and interstitial cystitis

  • PCOS

  • Anxiety

  • Post Partum

  • Menopause

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Sleep apnea

  • Multiple unexplained physical symptoms

  • HSP

  • Post-partum related strains.

  • We believe that breathing dysfunction is intimately related to many health conditions that women suffer. Through our clinical experience we have found answers for our patients in the breath and in restorative sleep.

Currently there is no solid research in the area of sleep and breathing and how it relates to endometriosis and dysmenorrhea and this is something here at More Pathways we are looking in to.

People who suffer from endometriosis and dysmenorrhea have a lot in common with sleep and breathing dysfunction and the airways may be an underlying cause that is perpetuating the condition. We have found through our careful look at the research that both share similar traits such as:

  • poor sleep quality

  • Increased inflammation

  • Dysregulated nervous system

  • Central sensitisation

  • Pelvic congestion and sluggish lymphatics

  • Diaphragm dysfunctions

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Anxiety

  • GIT problems

  • Tissue hypoxia

  • Chronic Fatigue

  • Reduced vagal tone

  • Brain fog

  • Difficulty with exercise

  • Excessive daytime sleepiness

What we do know from the research is:

  • It is suggested that intervention to improve sleep is warranted as part of endometriosis management

  • Learning breathing exercises can help lower flares and endometriosis related pain

  • Learning how to widen the window of tolerance can help with pain and management

  • Endometriosis is a comorbid condition in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and breathing retraining may help the management of CFS

  • Women with low resting heart rate variability experience a higher number of severe endometriosis-related pain descriptors and more intense pelvic pain.

  • boosting vagal nerve activity may have therapeutic potentials for patients with endometriosis.

We can approach these women’s health problems by addressing:

  • Sleep quality

  • Vagal tone

  • Heart rate variability

  • Anxiety

  • Window of tolerance

  • Underlying breathing pattern dysfunctions

  • Diaphragm weaknesses

  • Anxiety

We can address these areas through attention and modulation of the breath through an integrative and personalised plan and practice integrated into a osteopathic manual health care treatment.
